| How many times have you buffed the car out? The reason I ask this is because the paint may be very thin in some spots. everytime you buffed it it is taking of some paint. You have to be careful when wet sanding a single stage paint. Even with 2000 or 2500 you can still fuck it up. Trust me I have experience with sanding through. Especially on the edges. And if I remember correctly Corrados have some edges.
My advice would be to wash it down and clay bar the car. You will even see pait come off on the clay bar. Get the car as smooth as possible, Get all the old wax off and start with a fresh base. Before you start getting into wet sanding try using different grit compounds. It is the same principle as wet sanding. Use course to fine. And for the swirls, I always use 3m swirl mark remover with the black honeycomb pad. Then put a coat of wax on. Try this in a small spot and see how it turns out. I dont know how bad the oxidation is on your car but to get it completely out, you probably would have to take off some paint and you dont want to do that. The oxdation on my BMW wasnt even that bad. I used 1500 and it still was there. That is why I dont recomend wet sanding.
PS Take off all your mouldings with some painters tape. It takes a bit but saves you in the long run. Also when buffing the hood, pop it open just leave it sit about the fneders. That way you dont burn the edges on the fenders. You could also tape eges on corners too.. |
