Help help asap please - 03-07-2010, 06:40 PM

So the car is stored for winter, i start it every 2-3 weeks without problems except i always have to jump it with my jumpbox. Today i jumped it and started up like always ran for about 2 min then just shut down. No hesitation or anything just like somebody had turned it off, now it wont restart and is making some clicking behind the steering column when the key is turned over and also sounds like the fuel pump is turning on and off as this clinking continues... (relay maybe)ANY IDEAS? my car is now in the street and have to get back into the yard as i cant park in the street yet[confused]

BTW car is a 99.5 1.8tqm

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHOOT ME A TEXT 913-4293

yeah you don't really have a serious problem, just your alternator isn't charging your battery. the clicking noises are from your dead battery not having enough juice to make things fully function.

well i left the audi jumped onto my other car running for over an hour and still nothing... all lights on the dash light up bright and everything but still hear the relay clicking and wont fire up... Could a bad relay do this clicking or could it still be the battery?

Stop re-reading this post. It probably doesn't make sense.

battery is bad. I would replace the battery with a new one, walamrt is cheapest and i feel last for the $. Let is run, if the car dies after a half hour, then replace altenator.
Its not ignition or relay.

Couldn't be a timing belt. Starter would still turn the crank.

Check the battery terminals for corrosion. Clean them anyways while your there. Then check the voltage. Should be around 11.5v - 12.5v, ideally closer to 12.5v. If it's low, pull the battery from the car and charge it. Once fully charged let it sit and check the voltage periodically through out the day. If the voltage drops, then replace the battery. If not, there could be a parasitic draw somewhere in the car.

Once you get the car started, check voltage at the battery once again. should be ~14.6 with the engine running. If not then replace alternator(at the very least pull it and have it tested at autozone or advance.)

No sense throwing parts at a car before making sure.
