Cleaning a headliner - 04-18-2010, 12:18 PM

I'm a little concerned about the integrity of the backing and adhesive on a 20 year old car, so I'm not really sure what the best course of action would be.

Any ideas?

any type of foam surface cleaner(apply to towel not to headliner) should be fine... BUT DO NOT STEAM CLEAN!

when you say surface cleaner do you mean like a carpet cleaner or something else? Any suggestions on a product?

Tried a small spot last night and it looks like the backing deformed a little. I might be f'd.

I have used these towel wipes. dont soak the headliner... wipe it down let sit and wipe again.. but again try on a small spot first. These are awesome for hands in the garage!

I've always used Spray 9 and a scrub brush. Being an older
headliner use a soft brissel brush so your not to harsh on it
and don't loosen the adhesive.

lol, I was about to ask if you know of anywhere to pick those up locallly then I noticed you were in Washington. Where'd you get yours?

Given that it's already let go behind the visors, I'm not sure it will hold up to the scrub brush.

I might just have to live with it for a little bit.

Are they big spots or just some small areas with stains?
A used up tooth brush works very well too.

It's more of an all over haze of filth with a couple of spots that are stained a little worse. It's not horrible, but I like my shit clean if you know what I mean.

The rest of the interior cleaned up pretty nicely, but as of now it looks like I got to the pillars and said screw it.

Thanks for the tips guys!
