Stone chips - black paint. - 06-23-2010, 10:46 AM

Is their a decent way to at least disguise the white stone chips on black paint.

I was thinking about a decent black wax, so at least the chips will catch the dark wax and help hide them.

But id love some suggestions, other than repainting.

Dan's right, The best way to do pull this off (IMO) is to clean out the chip with a brush just enough to clean out the wax and such in the chip and then use a alcohol wipe to clean around and in the chip..Then fill the chip with touch up paint. Then buff it out smooth so it doesn't look like touch up paint filled chips. It takes some time but worth it in the end. I'm sure there are other ways to do it as well

I have a customer whose rear boot lid got keyed with a particularly nasty comment. I was able to get maybe about 80% of it out with black cleaning polish wax. It rubbed out some of the scratching and did cover it quite a bit. It's still there, but at least it isn't shouting out what it originally said.

i left a stone chip to rust... i cleaned it out with a 90 degree grinder and scotch pad on the edge to a dime sized spot of bare metal and filled it with windshield primer that's uber self etching. it won't rot out and i'll put a bug shield on it eventually. clean out the wax and don't let it go, fill it with touch up paint, and then wet sand/buff it level.

His daughter parked it on Elmwood one....late....night and someone keyed "!*#^%" across the rear deck from side to side in foot high letters. Sorry, that's all you get. They also keyed a BMW and a few other cars with similar phrases.

I think it may just be a bit more harsh than that....if it was that
I'm sure Squid may have just posted it? It wasn't the word
I was thinking. Race related Squid?

As for the paint chip issue, the old VW touchup paints come with a
wire brush built in. Use that to get to the bare metal, clean out the
area then fill it let it dry and do it again, and maybe agains so that it
is raised up over the rest of the paint, then wetsand it down to flush
with the rest of the paint, clearcoat it, then buff. Repeat that
process again if need be. It can be a pain but it will do the trick if you
really want it looking good.

Edit: spelling
