fix a leaky after run water pump? - 02-08-2010, 03:42 PM

I pulled the pump and installed the 90 deg splice to bypass. But....
I split the pump (4 screws ) electric motor in one half.. hose connections
and impeller in the other half of the housing. A red o ring and a thin
surface gasket seals the seam.

so.. can I buy this red gasket?

is it worth fixing?

why the hell did they put this pump in if it isnt realy needed?
<vortex> It's to control the rate of cooling of the block vs aluminum head so you don't get warpage. </vortex>

no parts for it are available to my knowledge, the plastic deteriorates and that's why they usually leak, so if you put the pump back together the plastic will crumble eventually and fail. the pump runs after you shut it off to keep a little coolant flowing after shut off. it doesn't hurt to have it, but a lot of people have run without it.
