89 gli idle issue - 03-06-2010, 02:38 PM

I just put my 89 gli on the road and was driving it around yesterday and after about an hour after i stopped at a red light it idled around 2k. Driving it around its fine but every once in a while coming to a stop it will just idle high. It doesnt do it all the time. I noticed that when i unplug the isv it drops a little but not to where its supposed to. wondering if possibly a bad isv.. anyone give me a clue on this thanks .. Paul

What engine?
Could be a possible vacuum leak
or something as easy as turning the idle screw back in to lower the idle

look for vacuum leaks.
an easy way is to use a can of brake clean or carb cleaner and spray it around the intake boots and vacuum lines.
if the idle jumps up, you've found the leak.
but I'd start with the idle screw first, it's easy.
look for a screw coming out the side of the throttle body.
the oring on them sometimes dry rots and starts to loosen
and the screw will walk out.
turn the screw in to lower the RPMs
