mkv gti sounds like a diesel - 08-20-2010, 09:22 PM

shits pissin me off real bad.. maybe because i just finished a 12 hour shift and i may be a bit pissy.

so theres the normal very quiet note of a stock 2.0 fsi
then when you put an intake on, you can hear the tick of the fuel injectors.. due to not having the engin cover on to baffle that sound, this i know.

but this fucking car 4 out of 5 days i start it up sounds like a diesel. it knocks and sounds like thers no oil in the fucker. today it was good all day, purring quietly to itself like a good little car, then after my last stop for the day i fire it up and all i can hear is loud ticking/knocking. shit runs fine, pulls strong drives totally normal just sounds fucking retarded. wtf is going on. now im due for an oil change, but even after a fresh one the last 2 times iv had it changed it still knocks. it seems to do it when its really humid tho, the other week and days like today, it was dryer and more on the cool side.

motor is completely stock aside evo ms intake and eurojet pcv kit. car has 55k and it almost never sees past 5k rpms. i dont baby it, but i deff dont beat it. any ideas???

then i come to a red light and roll to stop.. shes quiet as a kitten again. guess i just gatta smack a bitch every so often to keep her in line. stupid volkswagen.

Ok I have a tsi mkv so it might not be the same but I also have an intake. My car sounds like a diesel only when the engine is cold. When the engine is cold there is a compressor pumping air to the cats to heat them up faster. This pump could not be heard with the stock box

I really didn't read this whole thread, but if its happening when cold this could be the cause

Performance- APR Stg 2, Milltek CB, Billy Boat Downpipe, Carbonio Intake
Cosmetic- 35% Tint, Euro Switch, LED City and License Plate Lights, Colormatched Side Markers, Yellow Fogs, Open Fog Grills

nah itll do it all day at times, i think.. to be honest it might just be me not using the engin to its fullest. the last 3 days or so after letting it get warmed up iv been taking it up to 6k or so.. really putting it through the paces and its been sounding quiet. today it started quiet and i drove the 5 miles to the 219 from my house and at the light i could hear it knocking/ticking pretty good.. go on the 219 and ripped it hard. when i got to the next light it was still knocking a bit but i let it idle a bit and it just smoothed out after a few minutes. ran quiet all the way home. weird

- i say that because i herd of a guy with an rs4 that drove it like a grandma and it got a build up around the intake and exhaust maniflods because the engin is built to rev out and needs to be worked. i spend so much time in 6th just toolin around i think it just wanted to get a work out
