020 issues... grrr - 09-01-2010, 05:07 PM

So i was selling a MK3 99 2.0 per vortex code DFO

AMC - Oct 91 thru Aug 92
CHE - Aug 92 thru May 96
DFQ - May 96 thru the end of the MK3 cars, in 1999.

there was a "click" from the driver side, I thought to be the axle, I have now replaced the axle and still a click. put it on stands and ran the car, in the forword gears there is a click inside the transmission like a midget is banging around in there... the car drives fine, shifts fine, pulls strong... what is it? do i need to swap the tranny?

any one got one laying around?

Is the fluid topped off? I know that 5th gear is physically higher up on those trannies, so it's the first to dry out and chip a tooth, meaning your lower gears will work fine until the metal gets shaved and gets between them... And I'm pretty sure reverse uses separate gears from any of the forward speeds.. Have you driven it fast enough to get it into 5th?

No woman is good-looking for long enough for it to matter. (not the exact words, but idea stolen from Kurt Vonnegut)
