SPAM text messages

So the other day I started to get slammed with SPAM text messages. Like one every few hours. Same stuff as you get in your inbox. Annoying..yes, but more so since I don't have text plan. I don't text much, I only have a one of my friend's that I text a few times a week. So I just pay by the message, it's cheaper. Getting SPAM means I have to pay for each message and they're just nasty anyways.

I went to the Verizon Store at McKinley a couple days ago and as of last week they have a special service to block SPAM emails. You have to talk to someone in customer care and they have a code they enter in their system to activate it. BTW the code is 8194. At first he must've thought they were just messages from someone I knew, but I had saved them to show what they were and when he looked at my phone he didn't wonder any more.

It's called a 'Premium text message blocking service' so I asked him if I had to pay for it and he said no. I'll be watching my bill to be sure. What you do next is go to vtext.com and you can enter in up to 15 URL's or addressses to block. Hopefully this will take care of it.

While I was there the other clerks got in on the conversation and each said that only within the last week has it become a problem. They said they've been getting flooded with really angry people coming in getting tons of nasty texts. One was a mom who's 10yr old was getting the graphic anatomical type messages. Something obviously happened recently.

In any event if you get hit, talk to someone at Verizon and get them to take care of it. I'll let you know how it works.

On a Blackberry you can just block # that are not recognized in the options menu. Happy I have never had to deal with that crap.

I would refuse to pay the charge for those text messages. Thats Verizons fault not yours.

One reason I left verizon is because they are money hungry scum bags... No such thing as unlimited in the verizon vocabulary.

True!!! Unlimited to Verizon means 5GB.
Verizon Wireless: When we say "unlimited data," we mean 5GB worth of "unlimited data"

Verizon Wireless agrees to $1M settlement over 'unlimited' ads - RCR Wireless News

Also I'm pretty sure Jellers little bro was saying how he had unlimited texting with Verizon, but would go over there so called unlimited cap every month and was getting charged an arm and a leg. Hence he went to At&T...

Heck when I had a treo with Verizon. I had 500 text messages 600 minutes and "unlimited" internet and my bill with tax was $125 a month. This was three years ago mind you. So I paid the early termination fee and never looked back. I have 1500 text messages 1000 minutes and unlimited internet and my bill is $90
