| Funny you mention DOCSIS because while I was trying to find prices on FiOS I read that one of the reasons VZ is pushing better deals by locking you into multi year contracts is because they know once DOCSIS is available FiOS won't be as relevant. Unfortunately docsis does not hit gigbit speed though. Version 3 maxes out at 340Mbit down \ 120 up to the end user. Still a hell of a lot faster than fios, but well below true fiber speeds that others are getting overseas. those bitches.
You are right the other stuff though. I would probably never even use all the bandwidth of fiber if I had it, but cable feels like such a rip off when you look around. Streaming a video off hulu or something equivalent and downloading some music or torrents or whatever at the same time and you just maxed out your 500kbps connection. The cool new thing for the telcos is capping and throttling your "unlimited" connection too. gotta love big business.
