Sooo sad to watch. I am also guilty, though. I crushed dozens of mk1's during the 90's. They all had cancer but, in retrospect, were way more solid than most of our mk1's today in Buffalo that people here are restoring. Hindsight being 20/20 and all.

Wow.. back in the days before seatbelts! Love the idiot in the bug vert with all those people in the car with him.. that could have been real messy.
The old bug's roof is pretty bullet proof though.

The person in that BMW at :30 got REAL lucky. It's funny how so many of those cars drove away after rolling.

I don't recall how much it is, but if you crash at Nurenburg(sp), there is a heavy fine invoked. Also, it is a public road, so anyone can go on it, for a toll, and as long as there isn't a race or testing going on. However, how would you claim this on your insurance if you crash? Sad as it is, it's good that nobody perished, at least in this video. Can you say plenty of oversteer on some of these cars? Seatbelts were mandatory back then, how come they aren't wearing them? What's up with the group in the 'vert, are they insane?

Being a public road helps on the insurance side of things.
