my 2 week project car begins....mk2 content.

so i have 99% of the parts i need to make the 'new' jetta my own.

tomorrow is the rebuild of my 1.8 block. i was first opting for the ABA turbo 8v. but for time/money reasons that wont be going in until next spring along with a moderate turbo and magasquirt to manage.

i have every bearing and seal ready to go, plastigauge and every little sensor, lifter, and modded part i could get for a nicely modded daily driver/street prepared class autoXer.

ive listed everything in my ditb garage but i will be posting photobucket links to the progress day by day. its no VR6, 1.8T or 16v on ITBs but its gonna be the best 8v n/a motor ive seen in a mk2. it will be more then enough to pull me around town and the courses for this summer. im building the chassis with future plans in mind so much time and money goes the way of suspension and braking power.
for power some good head work, header, cam,s BWM maf with g60 injectors and g60 fpr and ported throttle body to take it in. pelolok kit for some more traction in the turns. koni sports to pin down the BBS RMs and every sway and stress bar you can mount in there. plus slotted/drilled g60 brakes all around to slow it down...overkill for now but its worth it in the end.

i build my cars from chassis up not waiting for the power to overdrive the car before i mod the rest.

the styling will be limited to mostly stock parts like a GLI trunk lip, smoked ecode aeros with eyebrow, yellow fogs and M3 tails. scirocco mono wiper for personal preference. bbs rm's for factory 'bling'.
its all abt making it my own.if no one likes it...it wont ever matter b-cuz its what I want right now. next year adding abt 75% more power should put the car i built it for seem just enough to control it.

so off i go to prepare the block.

That sounds like an awesome project. Big ups on having the discipline to improve the most important areas first -- safety, handling--.

Looking forward to pics and updates.

wow just so you all know, those intermediate bearings are such PITA to change, i dont recommend it. vw doesnt sell them anyway and bentley doesnt cover it in the book, i say leave them alone.

i have cleaned the block, installed the int. bearings, and honed the cyls. now to paint the block some dark blue or black. then on to rings and rods and crank.
havent recievd the aba oil pump yet. but the rest of the block should be complete by this sunday.

onto the UPDATE: i will post a pic link for now
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f6...y/000_0146.jpg
have the full rotating assmebly together, new front and rear seals and will pick out the block color tomorrow for another pic. some minor head work to finish and still no oil pump in the mail. I also ordered my pelolok kit from TT for some traction. you can only say "its only an 8v" until you ride in it or time it on a course. its not a drag car, but its gonna be quick.

I was wondering why use the G60 injectors. I was looking into using them for my xflow this year but the lbs/hr was far more than I needed. Unless you are raising compression or some sort of FI i think stock digi II injectors should be sufficient. I look forward to seeing the bmw maf if your gonna go with digi II that seems like it would be the best upgrade to go with

ive read into this alot for the last year and everything with the BMW maf is that it will lean out in high rpm's if you dont raise your FPR and injector delivery to compensate for the airflow your adding up top and to keep drivability low end. most say at least the g60 injectors and fpr to keep it in safe ranges. i will find the link i read with the dynographs.

plus its advanced planning for next years add on. im thinking mega squirt and turbo.

Before jumping into using the injectors i would try to tune the air flow meter to work properly I appreciate the future use of the injectors but there is really no way a 1.8 with stock compression could flow the air needed to warrant the amount of fuel that is produced by the regular duty cycle of g60 injectors. My xflow was over fueled by the stock 19lb injectors with a neuspeed chip i believe the digi II injectors have the same lb rating. I think you will be better suited using the stock injectors above their normal useage. Food for thought
