vr magically got louded when i was on it last night

Accelerating onto transit in Lockport last night I hit 35-4 grand in second gear and all of a sudden I have a growl coming from the engine I've never had before. Maybe I blew a rusty chunk out of my exhaust somewhere up front. Haven't had a chance to look around yet. Its not constantly louder now though, just at and above the rpm's I mentioned. Any ideas?

this happened on my mk3 a while back, somehow all of the hardware that held the cat to the dp maybe? fell out

get under it and take a look

Haha yeah straight pipes as Fuck! Ill crawl under it this afternoon and are what I can see.. I don't really mind it being louder.. Its only when I'm on it anyways.. But I'm curious about it for sure. Been looking to cut out the muffler soon anyways.. Just pipe it to the resonator

VR's sound awesome when you cut out the "suitcase" resonator
and replace it with a straight pipe. They are not loud what so ever
but give them a nice growl. I did this on my MK3 VR and loved it.

me too, it sounded awesome. people constantly asked what kind of exhaust i had and it was stock

those suitcase mid mufflers tend to rot out fast. if its the culprit take it to mufflerman, have em cut out the old ish and weld in a straight pipe, enjoy the awesome vr noises
