wouldn't having an independent rear suspension be better compared to a torsion bar for aggressive driving?

I remember that name from UBRF; makes me wish I kept html backups of some of the posts on there. The D-series turbo DIY was one of the best write-ups I had read in a while at the time..

You would think so, but whenever I've driven hard in a Honda, I get the impression I've got a couple of skis back there. I'm sure in a RWD car it'd be favorable, but in a FWD car, I kind of want to have predictable body roll in a hard corner as opposed to cornering so flat that the driving experience is "meh." On the other hand, daily driven with no aggressive driving involved, independent suspension on all four corners can't be beat.

Oh, and less moving parts = less stuff to fix later on.

Anyone willing to weld me up some mounts?

The wiring would prob kick my ass but this would be a fun ass project.

wiring is really going to be a headache with this....

honestly, your best bet is probably to pull all of the vw wiring out of the car, buy a beater civic, pull that entire harness and take your time putting the complete civic harness in the vw, right down to the fucking turn signals. civic wiring is very simple. maybe even put the civic cluster in the vw?
