Headlight help - 08-14-2010, 01:08 PM

Removed the aftermarket chrome trim around my headlights last weekend. I knew the headlights were cloudy, but I didn't realize just how bad they were. The area behind the trim was factory clear.

Just wondering what your thoughts / experience with the head light polishing kits are. Are they worth it, or should I / do I, need to replace the housings?

All the kits we've tried last for awhile, but slowly fog back up.

3m makes a very good kit, a little bit expensive but it works very well. Whatever it is you use, best results are with a high speed buffer.

I've heard some good things about the kits, but I have always
done my own thing with cleaning up headlights.

Started with some 400 grit, then up to 800, next was wet sanding
with 1200, 1500 and finally 2000. Hit it with buffer and a wool pad
with a heavy abrassive cutting wax. And finish the job I used a foam
pad and a mild compound. They will come out next to new looking and
should last for at least 6 months.
