yeah anything past 4500 rpms in that car was lots of blue smoke when your right foot was feelin heavy. but still ran ok. killed lots of spark plugs though.
Edit: i remember the one morning i went out side to let it warm up and the oil cooler seal blew. the little champ ran for about 30 mins with no oil in it. i later noticed a slight rod knock on top of the ticking lifters.
I will still trade my 75 yamaha dirt bike for this car at any time. it also needs rings.

It smoked a little bit when I owned it.
That engine lived in the top RPMs when I had it.
It's had quite a life.
The PO to me took first place in the DSP class for AutoX many a times.

You and me both there man! I know the year and a half I had it, it ran above 4.5k a lot. Was great running when I had it, other than you fucking up the headgasket after you sold it to me! lol (actually that was my luck with cars in general)

We should have a poll to see how many people owned and raped that car. Its almost been around the block as much as Veshias mom!

well what do you want to do with the car? Forced or NA?

If forced what do you want to do with it such as SC or Turbo?
If you go NA what are your plans?

that might help. Also if rebuilding the engine on the POS is you goal, you should do research and and figure out what way you want to go.

ex. if you are going NA, look for a bottom end figure if you want to bore out from there, do head work etc....

if you go forced induction and rebuilding, do a mk3 2.0 bottom end out of a obdI car so you get forged internals and oil squerters and run the 16v head, there are writeups out there to do both

they will help point you in the right directions

It sucks i have to bring this up but you sound like your going to throw money at this thing. if your serious about this car, there is one thing you must know about the long history of mysterious clutch failures. I belive it started back when Steve owned it where they could never get a good feeling clutch pedal out of it, and no one could figure out why, every time they put a new clutch in the car the same thing would happen. A lousy clutch pedal, hard shifting at times, and sure enough an early clutch failure. if your planning on ditching current engine and trans then no worries. Im not sure how far in the diagnosis went with the issue, but i can name five times ive seen this car get a new clutch put in, with the same problem come back. When I aquired the car with a blown clutch, I knew the history but thought I could figure it out. So on i went with new clutch kit install every thing looked fine threw in a new cable, arm/shaft, thumb, throw out bearing, ext. I needed a car, so back together it went. With a half way decent pedal and good shifting, I drove it for around 6 months and put a ton of miles on it problem free. Thinking it would be ok, I traded it off to the next guy only to find out the clutch blew a week later. Of course every owner drove this car hard, but thats what its meant for. Now im sure most of you guys have unleashed rage on an o2o, these cars can take a beating.
So yeah, just a little something to consider before you start.
