Also I'm going to look at a 85 325e soon for $600. But its an e, and i've heard bad things about the design of the engine, something about the intake. But the e came with an lsd i think.

e's have smaller manifolds (intake and exhaust) smaller TB, a poor flowing head, (single valve spring design) a super low redline (4.5k iirc) some e's came with an lsd. if it had an lsd it will most likely be a 2.93. gobs of torque, a chip does wonders to an e.

pre -88's come with fugly diving board bumpers. sealed beam headlights

if i were to do an e30 again, m50 swap all the way. m20's are pretty crappy, especially when theyre running on the stock 25 year old motronic garbage. afms can eat it

Yeah, as a project can't be beat. No piecing together rusted fenders or floor boards. Needs the trans swapped (included good spare) and maybe a tuneup and bumper cover to put it on the road. Runs great as it sits.
