I wanna buy a project for around $500 - 06-21-2010, 03:52 PM

Ok, so my buddy at work picked up a fiero for $500 and its a piece of shit but he's having fun working on it. So I kinda wanna do the same thing and also pick up an old vw or bmw to work on at his house.

He has a 97 Grand Prix GTP, a 98 Trans Am WS6 and the 88 Fiero.
I have a 93 Eurovan, a 96 GTI VR6 but no project.

The Eurovan is hopeless. It is a masterpiece of engineering and reliability, but in a completely rusted shell. Much like a fat chick with a great personality. I've done everything I wanted to do to this car. Stereo and sunroof, thats all.

The GTI VR6 is almost done. All i need to complete the car are some wheels and a rear eurobumper, and I'm not in a hurry to get either.

So I want a project to work on at my buddy's house, alongside his fiero.

So my choices are:

mk1 rabbit
mk1 jetta
mk1/2 scirocco
mk1/2 cabby
mk1 caddy
bmw e30
benz w201
audi 80/90/coupe gt

so anything that was designed in the 80's

LMK what you have. I got $500 for your pile of crap.
Blown motors, surface rust ok.

Ah gonna have to decline. A4's are nice, but I wouldn't want to make a project out of one.

Plus, I'm assuming it the one in your FS ad, which I see is automatic, and you want just $500 for the seats and thats kinda my budget.

But if you want to sell the whole car for $500, I'll take it

get an ef civic 4 door, d16z6 swap and dump it on bottlecaps

then you can be as cool as this guy -

but really, for a good, fun, cheap project (youre still in high school, right?) a honda is the way to go. plentiful used parts both in junkyards and online, a HUGE fan base with tons of knowledge, ect.

or buy an e30. same idea, just more $ for shit

Not in high school anymore, just graduated this year. And I'm off to college in exactly 2 months.

And I cannot buy a honda, there is a kid I work with named Ryan who had a Civic coupe with a molded bodykit, rims, all the bolt-ons and I made sooooo much fun of him for it. He would make fun of my vr6 in return (I know right?!) I would be his bitch if I bought any honda, albeit an s2000 or an nsx (which I can't afford).

I'd really like a rocco, a mk2 or an e30.

I'd make it a 4 year project working on it in the summers between school. I'm in no hurry.

this summer= brakes/suspension

next=body work/paint

third year= engine/tranny work/swap (AAA, turbo ABA, g60 for the mk2 or rocco/ sr20det for the e30 )

4th year= interior work, finishing peices

.....

Profit

Also if anyone knows of a trashed maserati biturbo, lmk. the engines are useless and destoryed on most anyways, I'm thinking vr6 swap with quattro 4wd, shaved bumpers, slammed on rs's. Allright, getting a little carried away. But there has to be a biturbo shell for cheap somewhere.

Jam, bottlecaps are sexy. Than man wearing a honda as underwear is scary.

lol. people don't do this for profit.

if by profit you mean having something fun to do and learning a lot, then yes.

if you're lucky you'll make 1/2 to 2/3 of the actual money back you dump into it.

Where is this going to sit for 4 yrs while you're at college? Friend's house? Friend's parents' house? parents' house? I wouldn't be surprised if in less than a year someone tells you it needs to be moved. Or if you lose interest in it all together because it sits untouched for 6 months at a time.

Parent's house in the summers between semesters. My dad has a construction company that builds houses and he always stores stuff in the garages of the houses he's building, so thats where the project will stay in the winter.

Just looking for something to tinker on in the mornings before work as I only work after 4pm at my job.
