WTB Audi - 08-06-2010, 08:33 AM

I am looking to buy an Audi for my daily driver, A4 size, I budgeted about $3k, I have looked around CL, Ebay, other forums; thought it would be a good idea to get y'alls thoughts.

Whatever you do, make sure to have it checked out thoroughly, no matter what kind of Audi it is. Don't be like my brother and spend $5k on a '96 A4 worth $2500, and have to replace the heater core and engine within a years time.

Also, understand that even after a thorough check-over, be sure to have a reasonable budget for repairs at any given time.

Why the hell didn't he have you check it out before he bought it?
Or does your brother not live local?

He lives an hour away from me. I showed up at my folks house one day 2 years ago, and there's some random A4 that I've never seen before sitting in the driveway.

Brother Pete says "hey, look what I just got!" I dubiously say "greeeeeeaaaaaat"

When I then say, "so what do you have into it? 2500, no more than 3k?", his face kinda went long. Then he lifted the hood, and I immediately saw the heater core bypassed.

The story is much longer than this, but after driving around with the oil pressure light on for 3 weeks, he eventually seized the motor. When we got done with motor swap, I was very clear when I told him I'd never work on it again, and he needs to sell it for any amount of money that someone is willing to pay for it.

I saw that. Some high school graduate will probably get and post how much he hates his car in the next 6 months.

New to the forum as in posting; been around the area for 15 years; So, what is the deal with the S4 in Hamburg? Yes, I did not get my first Porsche checked out, and that is all I have to say about that. There are a lot of A4 Audis out there around 2500, around 150k miles; I buy out of state often, just have not had an Audi before and thought since I could use a car might be fun to get into one and see what they are like.

people often get into this car scene and don't think a 10 yr old turbocharged awd vehicle requires regular and past due maintenance. And how much maintenance is on a european vehicle.

In all honestly $2500 will get you something that drives but not reliably.

That is quite accurate; I do enjoy the maintenance on the cars, seems to keep me relatively sane; where in Texas are you, I myself am from Paris up northeast near that state across the Red River. So let's for fun say you had $3k, nothing fancy just some fun to drive, don't need a toy, can do the work myself, what would you look at.

Yea audis aren't bad cars as long as they were maintened at the dealer or by someone who knew what they were doin... timing is the biggest factor with either the 1.8's or the v6's for that matter.audi dealers printed schedualed maintience times for the cars for a big reason lol. If I were u and u wanted to keep it euro find a decent E36 to drive shit just doesent brake on them.I know a few people with cars over 250k that are still running strong and they beat the snot outta them. Good luck tho.
